Again with your limited mileage and use, in good shape any 3 series will be low maintenance. If it was me I would say e46. E30 is a great project car, but if you arent looking for a project get a newer model. e36 is good too, buy one in good shape and it will be fine. But e46 still feels new and drives and looks great.
It had a BMW battery that had lasted over 7 years. I stupidly replaced it with an applicable Walmart battery and within one year, I had to get the free replacement because it wouldn't hold a charge. Now one year later, the new battery is having the same problem and the parasitic draw is completely normal.
The BMW E46 is considered one of the best, modern-day, BMW chassis. Its balance combined with the E46's seemingly timeless design and inline-six engnes makes it a go-to German performance car even
In each and every instance, all three valve covers were cracked in the exact same place, near a bolt hole above the rear exhaust manifold heat shield. Cover must be thoroughly cleaned with a good degreaser to ensure good adhesion. Let it dry really good, whatever the RTV tube says. Reinstall and be amazed at how long it lasts.
Casual Maintenance (ie; couple times a year)- Techron (or BMW stuff), Regane, Lucas, Gumout etc. Low Maintenance (ie; aggressive one time use)- BG44K, Berryman Chemtool, Seafoam (or Deep Creep) Ventil Sauber. Obviously the high maintenance ones are the mildest. They are slow cleaners and will clean over time/miles.
